An ancient system for seeing clearly

I Ching — The Book of Changes

The I Ching does not offer a fixed verdict. It reveals the structure of the present moment: what is active now, where change is forming, and which direction the situation is taking.

How an online I Ching reading works

A consultation begins with one focused question. The traditional method uses three coins: each cast creates a line with the value 6, 7, 8, or 9. Six lines are built from the bottom upward and form the primary hexagram — the image of what is already active in the situation.

1

Ask one living question

Focus on a real decision, relationship, work situation, or inner process. Questions aimed at understanding and action are the most useful.

2

Receive six lines

Solid lines are yang and broken lines are yin. Values 6 and 9 identify the points where the current state is changing.

3

Read two images

The primary hexagram describes the present. Transforming the changing lines creates the resulting hexagram — the direction of the next phase.

What the Book of Changes reveals

The I Ching combines two levels of interpretation. The first is the whole image of the hexagram: its central theme, guidance, strength, and possible distortion. The second is the movement of individual lines. Together they create a reading that can be applied to relationships, work, money, decisions, and personal development.

It is not a mechanical yes-or-no oracle. Its purpose is to show the quality of the moment and help you take a more accurate position within it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the I Ching?

The I Ching, or Book of Changes, is a system of 64 hexagrams that describes conditions and transitions through six yin and yang lines.

How does the three-coin method work?

Three coins are cast six times. Each cast creates one line; values 6 and 9 are changing lines and create the resulting hexagram.

What does the resulting hexagram mean?

It shows the image of the next condition that emerges after the changing lines of the primary hexagram are transformed.

Can I ask about relationships or work?

Yes. A focused description of the situation and your role in it makes the hexagram meaning easier to apply.
